Mr. Nelson Cole

Nelson Cole is a retired businessman and his concerns for the 91st District are the same as any businessman or concerned citizen - education, jobs, economy, drugs, and environment.  He was born in Charlotte, NC and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BS in Business Administration - Management in 1962.  He was the President/Owner of Nelson Cole Inc., an automobile dealership in Reidsville, NC for almost 20 years..  He sold his dealership in 2002 after almost 40 years in the automobile industry with one of the Big Three manufacturers and as a dealer.  On June 6, 2011 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the North Carolina Automobile Dealers Association for his success, not only as an automobile dealer, but also for his 16 years as a State Representative in the North Carolina Legislature.

Cole served 8 terms as a State Representative and during his last term his peers selected him “the most effective representative” in the greater Triad area and he was ranked the 13th most effective in the state by the non-partisan North Carolina Center for Public Policy Research which conducts the non-partisan poll of all representatives.

During his service, Nelson was Chairman of the Joint Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation and served as Vice Chairman of the Transportation Policy Committee for 12 years.  He also served as Vice Chairman of the Public Utilities Committee and was on the Insurance, Commerce, Small Business, Wildlife Resources, and Entrepreneurship Committees.  In January 2009 he was appointed Co-Chair of the Program Evaluation Committee.  This committee evaluates programs and departments to improve efficiency and reduce cost to the citizens.

Cole has been active in many community activities such as, President of the Reidsville Chamber of Commerce, a founding Director of the Reidsville Soup Kitchen, Vice President and a founding Director of the Habitat for Humanity, President of Reidsville Rotary Club, Reidsville Outreach Center volunteer and Elder in the First Presbyterian Church.  This year he served as Chairman of the Rockingham County United Way, which reached its goal of one million dollars.

Cole has been married to Libby for 51 years, has 3 grown daughters and 3 granddaughters.

Cole will do the very best he can in Raleigh to know the issues facing the 91st District and State and will vote the way that allows the quality of life for every citizen and the bottom line for every business to become better in the future.
